We offer two types of individual counseling: Crisis Counseling and traditional longer term Individual Counseling.
Clients who are in crisis are offered 3 crisis counseling sessions with a professional counselor. Crisis counseling will focus on safety, crisis intervention, and immediate coping skills and options.
Clients can receive up to 24 sessions of professional individual counseling that focuses both on crisis intervention and/or healing and recovery. There is commonly a wait for individual counseling, particularly for evening and Saturday appointments.
Counseling offers you a safe, confidential place to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to help you improve things.
Counseling is a very personal process. Sometimes it is necessary to talk about painful feelings or difficult decisions, so you may go through a period of feeling worse than when you started. However, counseling should enable you to feel better in the long-run. If you do experience a period of feeling worse, talk to your counselor about it to ensure you get the best out of your counseling.
Usually it will take a number of sessions before counseling starts to make a difference. However on rare occasions, a single session may be enough.
